US Mother Extradition Hearing Concludes Amid Murder Allegations
A Westminster judge has denied a US mother's attempt to contest extradition for the alleged murder of her two children in Colorado.
Kimberlee Singler, a 36-year-old mother, was arrested in London on January 9, 2024 after allegedly fleeing the United States where she faces accusations of murdering her two children, Elianna, aged nine, and Aden, aged seven. Their bodies were discovered on December 19, 2023, in Colorado Springs following a distress call. District Judge John Zani announced in Westminster Magistrates' Court that Singler's appeal against extradition was denied, with the case now proceeding to the home secretary for final determination on her return.
In the courtroom, the prosecution detailed the harrowing events leading up to the children's death, stating that the mother had been entangled in "acrimonious court proceedings" over custody with her ex-husband, Kevin Wentz. Prosecutor Joel Smith recounted that police, responding to a report of a burglary at Singler’s residence, found both children deceased alongside a blood-stained handgun. Further investigations revealed mixed DNA profiles on the weapon and other items, linking Singler to the scene.
A third child, whose identity has not been disclosed, was discovered injured but survived. Prosecutor Smith highlighted that Singler attempted to shift the blame to her husband, however, evidence from a GPS vehicle tracking system confirmed he was in Denver at the time, thereby providing him with an alibi. The court's decision adds another layer to the ongoing tragic developments surrounding this case, as the US authorities prepare to seek Singler's extradition for trial.
