In a troubling escalation, the Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the few remaining healthcare facilities in northern Gaza, suffered significant damage due to Israeli airstrikes on Monday. Local health officials stated that both patients and medical staff were wounded in the attack, which they described in a distressing statement as “a distress call that may be the last.”

According to the Gazan health ministry, the hospital, located in Jabaliya, a densely populated area just north of Gaza City, has faced relentless bombardment, hampering the ability of medical teams to respond effectively to emergencies. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, the hospital director, conveyed the terror experienced during the assault, reporting that they were under continuous shelling for several hours, making it impossible for medical personnel to assist injured colleagues trapped on different floors.

Officials claim the strikes were targeted and deliberate, yet the Israeli military has stated they are currently reviewing these reports. In a previous statement, they alleged that they facilitated the evacuation of patients and staff from the Kamal Adwan Hospital, along with additional humanitarian aid supplies. They have historically defended their military actions by suggesting that hospitals often sustain damage due to strikes on nearby militant targets or operations linked to Hamas.

However, these assertions have been firmly contested by hospital administrators and human rights organizations, who allege that the systematic destruction of healthcare infrastructure in the region is intentional.
