A six-storey building undergoing refurbishment in Madrid partially collapsed, claiming the lives of four individuals. The incident has prompted an investigation and raised concerns about safety standards in construction.
Four people have died after a six-storey building which was being refurbished partially collapsed in the centre of the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The city's mayor, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, confirmed that the bodies of the last two of the individuals reported missing were recovered on Wednesday morning, approximately 15 hours after sections of the structure on Hileras Street caved in.
Local sources identified the victims as a 30-year-old Spanish woman managing the renovation project and three male workers from Mali, Guinea, and Ecuador, aged between 30 and 50. There were also reports of three other persons sustaining injuries.
The building, previously an office space, was in the process of being transformed into a hotel. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
Spanish emergency services mobilized with several crews using drones and dogs to locate any trapped individuals following the collapse on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, a construction worker, recounted the scene, stating he was outside pumping concrete when he witnessed the building's collapse, followed by a significant dust cloud.
Despite the internal failure, the building's façade remained intact during the incident. According to developer Rehbilita's website, extensive renovations were being conducted to convert the space into a four-star hotel.
